Oral Rehydration Salts
ORS is a pre-packaged blend of salt, glucose and electrolytes mixed with water. Government's policy is to improve the health status of all Ghanaians and make people recognize ORS as part of the first aid kit in every household. Currently UNICEF donates the required raw materials, which are used to produce the ORS. GSMF distributes ORS to the private sector on behalf of the Government of Ghana.
ORS does not cure diarrhoea; it simply diminishes its life threatening effects by replenishing fluids and salts the body loses. Other uses: ORS is also used to curb dysentery, cholera, hypokalaemina in babies, severe drug reactions and bone pain crisis in sickle cell patients.
