Communications for ITMs
Having the vision of being at the cutting edge of emerging public and environmental health issues, GSMF is administering the demand generation, advocacy, research and management component of the Malaria ITM Project. Ghana has committed itself to the new World Health Organisation (WHO), Roll Back Malaria Initiative (RBM) launched in September 1998, which builds on the Global Malaria Strategy with focus on Africa. The project has been developed into a partnership which includes representatives of the commercial sector and the Ministry of Health (MOH), local and international non-governmental organisations, including GSMF, BASICS, NetMark, PATH Canada, UNICEF and WHO as well as potential local funding partners, USAID, DFID, JICA, DANIDA and the World Bank. This partnership has been formalised into a Task Force, which has been commissioned to provide strategic guidance.
Our experience in contracts and collaboration with the commercial sector for research and marketing of other public health products, provides a strong institutional base for the ITM partnerships.
ADAPTIVE EYECARE LIMITED– UNITED KINGDOM Adaptive Spectacles
In the past two years, GSMF has been conducting various marketing research studies on adaptive spectacles for Adaptive Eyecare Ltd based in Oxford, England. We conducted a market analysis of the optics industry in Ghana and also did various focus group discussions to ascertain consumer attitudes towards vision correction in urban and rural Ghana. As a follow on to this, we plan to conduct full-blown field trials of the adaptive spectacles in Ghana.
ADEMAS – SENEGAL Strategic Business Planning
In collaboration with Commercial Markets Strategies (CMS), we provided technical assistance in the preparation of a strategic business plan for sustainability to Ademas, a social marketing company based in Senegal.
